During the meeting, NVAD will proudly present its highest and prestigious award, the Reuben I. Altizer Award for 2008, posthumously to Rochelle "Shelly" B. Franks. Shelly was a highly respected advocate for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf/Blind individual. She was the Executive Director of DHHIG. She provided leadership of a Deaf/Blind support group and established the first Deaf HIV/AIDS support group, a model for others that followed.
This award was established by NVAD to recognize the highest caliber of productive leadership, integrity and dedication to deaf program development as exemplified by Reuben I. Altizer, founder of NVAD chapter.
Please come and witness the presentation. Cake will be served.
Note: The recipient of R.I. A. award for 2009 is Gay L. Nagy, and the ceremony will be announced in the spring.
