Art that Speaks

Fri, April 22, 2005 - 4:11:30

From the newsroom of the KTEN-TV, Channel 10 News, Ardmore, Oklahoma, Friday, April 22, 2004 .....

Art that Speaks

Art crosses the barriers of language, culture, and even the spoken word.

Some very gifted students showed off their artistic side today for all to understand.

KTEN’s Rich Klindworth explains.

The ArtSign 2005 is going on right now at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf. Basically it's an arts fair where the high school students’ work speaks for itself.

Today, 100 students from six different states showed off their acting talents on the stage. The four day event highlight's deaf high school students abilities in the performing arts as well as in the fine arts. The students are also given the opportunity to explore different types
of art through workshops, such as creative dance and watercolor painting.

ArtSign is held every two years and this is the first time in ten years for it to be held in Oklahoma. If it were up to the students, ArtSign would be held every year.

”I think it's cool to be involved with the ArtSign. So it is a new experience for me. I really like it,” says student Kelsey Jones.

“I'm happy because there's so many people who come from other schools making new friends,” says fellow student Aaron McGowen.

ArtSign 2005 runs through the weekend. The performances and art displays are open to everyone.
