MEDIA ALERT
CULINARY ARTS STUDENTS CONTRIBUTE TO HOTEL'S HOLIDAY DISPLAY
STUDENT WORK TO BE SHOWCASED IN DOWNTOWN LOBBY
WHAT: High school students from the Texas School for the Deaf's (TSD) Culinary Arts program team with professionals at the Hilton to decorate gingerbread houses to be assembled and displayed in the hotel's lobby throughout the holidays.
WHEN: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Friday, November 21, 2008
WHERE: Hilton Austin Downtown
500 East 4th Street
WHY: Part of the Career and Technology Education Department at TSD, the Culinary Arts program is a classroom that operates as a business and prepares students for careers in hotel and restaurant fields. Students cater many school events as well as fill outside orders upon request. Classroom instruction includes recipe testing, business management, menu planning, and food health and safety. Training opportunities working with guest chefs and food industry professionals, like the Hilton staff, give students real-world, on-the-job training experience.
With a strong belief in culture and community at TSD, students form a unique identity based on their individual strengths and talents. At TSD, students learn, grow, and belong. For more information about TSD, visit www.tsd.state.tx.us.
