What is Deaf TU and what is its purpose?
The purpose of Deaf TU is to bring awareness of the local deaf community to the University of Tulsa student body, to involve students in various ways with the deaf community, and to promote personal familiarization with deaf culture.
What does the group do?
Deaf TU throws various parties each semester for deaf children in Tulsa. On Nov. 19 the organization is hosting a Harvest Party at Wright Elementary School for the deaf education classes, grades Kindergarten through 5. DeafTU is also helping with the Tulsa Speech and Hearing Association Christmas party, Deaf Awareness Week, and several other activities within Tulsa’s deaf community.
Who can participate, and how?
Anyone can be involved. However, the majority of members are deaf education majors/minors. A member should have interest in the deaf community, deaf culture, and/or sign language.
Why get involved?
Deaf TU is a great way to get to know other Deaf Education majors or those learning sign language. It is also an easy way to get involved with the deaf community in Tulsa and learn multiple aspects of deaf culture.
When are meetings?
Meetings are always on Wednesdays at noon. An email is sent out before each meeting. If you want to receive emails, contact the president at heather-moffitt@utulsa.edu.
