Play a hand to benefit deaf skiers, snowboarders
BONDVILLE - The USA Deaf Youth Ski and Snowboard program and the WKL Foundation for the Deaf will host its first annual poker tournament to benefit deaf skiers and snowboarders who wish to participate in the Deaflympics. The tournament will take place Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Red Fox Inn in Bondville beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The USA Deaf Youth Ski and Snowboard program works with the WKL Foundation to help support deaf athletes who wish to compete in the Deaflympics. The non-profit organizations raise funds for the deaf through a number of initiatives throughout the year.
"We're thrilled to be involved with this great organization and important cause," said Kate Logan of the Red Fox Inn. "We hope the poker tournament helps the organization reach its goals."
The Red Fox Inn invites all interested parties to come show their support for the USA Deaf Ski and Snowboard program, which works with the USA Deaf Sports Federation and International Committee of Sports of the Deaf to send American athletes to the Deaflympics. The winter Deaflympic games began in 1949 and most recently took place in Salt Lake City in February 2007. Like the other Olympic games, the Deaflympics take place every four years. The 2011 games will be held in High Tatras, Slovakia.
The poker tournament will benefit the organization by providing monetary donations to help the athletes compete. To participate, come to the Red Fox Inn located on Winhall Hollow Road in Bondville on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
