POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: PART-TIME STAFF INTERPRETER

ORGANIZATION: Nevada Association of the Deaf (NVAD) Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy Resource Center (DHHARC) is a statewide advocacy, resource, telecommunications distribution, and direct service center offering advocacy, referral and community education services throughout Nevada.  DHHARC has two offices in Reno/Sparks and Las Vegas.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under direct supervision, provide sign language interpretation services to perform transliterating and/or interpreting for DHHARC staff who are deaf or hard of hearing at staff meetings, meetings with clients, interpret phone calls and other support assignments, including workshops, seminars, and special events (i.e., booth, etc.).  Job duties also include travel; night and weekend work may be required.  Assist with mentoring activities and training of other staff.  Assist with the management and administration of licensing of sign language interpreters and provides information on it.   Be familiar, or willing to learn about the process of registering CART providers and interpreters.   Other duties as assigned by Regional Office Supervisor

SALARY: $ 35 - $ 40 per hour or schedule DOE.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

·        Must be proficient in American Sign Language and other communication modes used by Deaf persons, have demonstrated capability to successfully work with the Deaf Community.  Must be registered as an interpreter with the State.

·        Observe the professional conduct code (RID)

·        Able to work independently as well as a part of a team

·        In-depth knowledge of Deaf Community’s needs

·        Ability to grow with the job’s demands and the Organization

·        Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

·        High School diploma or GED

·        Graduate of Interpreter Training Program/Entry level Interpreter desired.
